-
Let's go to the controlling server where the PowerSmart tool is installed and take a look at the configuration
-
PowerSmart for XenApp (formerly Presentation Server) installs a windows service on the controlling server which is kept running.
-
Configurations are stored in two files in the installation directory
-
config.xml stores such information as idle management time period, XenApp servers to be controlled etc.
-
In this setup, between 5:00PM to 7:00AM and all days on weekends, the XenApp server hpilo2 will be shut down when there is no active or disconnected ICA sessions
-
Because we are using HP ILO2, the ILO IP address is specified as an attribute of the server hpilo2
-
CpsPowerMgrService.exe.config contains configurations such as how to power on/off servers and debugging configuration etc.
-
In this setup, HPPowerOn.cmd and HPPowerOff.cmd are going to be called to power on/off servers
-
The power on and off scripts contain simple winrm based commands. They take ILO address as parameter. You may need to customize these scripts to suit your environment
-
Now let's change the clock to simulate what will happen when night comes
-
Because there is no connection to hpilo2, hpilo2 should be powered off. The events should be logged in eventlog.
-
Let's switch to hpilo2 console to confirm
-
Now let's change the time back, it is time to go to work
-
PowerSmart tool should power on hpilo2 server and power up event should be logged in event log
-
Let's switch to HPILO2 server console to confirm
